Have a favorite water sport?  Tybee Island is home to a variety of ways to splash, ride, paddle, and enjoy the water along our 5 miles of gorgeous beaches!  Whether you’ll be going it alone or with friends or family, there’s a water sport you can do for the hundredth time or learn for the very first time.

Here’s a visitor’s guide to the water sports that Tybee Island has to offer:

Stand-up paddleboarding is becoming more popular everywhere there is water mainly because it is fun and super easy to learn to do.  The best part about it is that it’s literally like walking on water!  One of the places the17th Street Inn recommends for this awesome activity is East Coast Paddleboarding.  They provide stand up paddleboard and surf instruction, rentals, tours, sales and summer camps.  All of their instructors are nationally certified to teach stand up paddleboarding as well as surfing.  Give them a call at (912) 484-3200.

There are a few places in Tybee where you can go kayaking as well as get lessons if it’s your first time.  One of the places we recommend is Sea Kayak Georgia, located at 1102 Highway 80.  It is owned and operated by Tybee residents who are both instructors and decade long professional paddlers.  You can also partake in paddleboarding here.

North Island Surf and Kayak is anther awesome place to check out for kayaking AND surfing!  They are located just across the Lazaretto Creek Bridge and are the closest kayak outfit to the ocean.  All of their staff are First Aid and CPR certified and just love what they do.  They also offer a variety of tours for small or large groups.

Jet Skiing and other Water sport Activities
Tybee Jet Ski & Watersports is THE place to go for a variety of water sports for groups of all sizes.  They offer kayak rentals for the creeks and river, as well as the ocean, canoeing, jet skiing, and more!  You can enjoy the beautiful scenery of Tybee Island’s beaches, Fort Pulaski and the historic lighthouse from a Jet Ski or Jet Boat. Give them a call at 1-877-9JETSKI.

Tybee Island is home to so many things to do and see that just about every place you can go will have you wishing you had more time to spend here!  What are some of your favorite things to do in Tybee?

Contact us here at the 17th Street Inn for more information about staying with us, things to do on Tybee Island including dining, nightlife, beach activities, must see attractions and events, and any other questions you may have about the area!  We would also love for you to connect with us on our Facebook Page.

Salt Artisan Tybee Island ribbon cutting video

Tybee Calendar dropped by the ribbon cutting for a very cool little store right in the heart of  “downtown” called Salt Artisan. Here’s a description of the store from their website.

“Salt Artisan LLC formed in January 2012 and we opened our first Salt store on beautiful Tybee Island, Georgia in March 2012.  All of our products are handmade in small batches using quality natural ingredients. “

Just like the owner Katie, this description is totally understated. First of all, the store smells incredible (I hate the smell of those candle/perfume kinda places, and was ready to hate the smell here too, but boy was I surprised) It’s clean and fruity and… seriously, stop in and just SMELL this place! It also looks great. Displays are laid out in a very modern approach that just says “classy.”

They’ve also created an online extension of the Tybee store for folks who find them while here on vacation and gotta have more.

Salt is a really cool addition to the business community here on Tybee and we’re hoping for great things for them. Swing by the store, located on Tybrisa between Rock House & Brass Anchor.

Saturday Night – The Accomplises

Tybee Island Social Club

The Accomplices, a lowcountry string band from Savannah, Georgia, is a unique sort of rock and groove-based blues-grass with overtones of jazz and bohemian country. With acoustic/effected guitars, upright bass, percussion, Dobro or lap steel, mandolin, and fiddle, their playing is one cross-genre blend of musical style and influence that will engage every type of listener. The band’s vocal harmonies and its clever lyrical prose only further embellish the strong musical foundation of this diverse group. Using their music as a vehicle for connecting with their audiences, the Accomplices are ever increasing their musical language and capacity for the heightened collective musical experience.

Thursday Night – The Magic Rocks

Huc a Poos

The Magic Rocks is a Savannah-based cover band formed by three longtime friends who have developed a strong musical chemistry over the past few years.

The band plays an unusually wide variety of Classic Rock & Roll, Alternative Rock, Blues, Pop, “Golden-Age” Country and Vintage Soul. The Magic Rocks are a roadhouse bar band, pure and simple – albeit noticeably more eclectic and versatile than most.
