Preparing Tybee Island for Rising Seas
March 4, 2013 @ 5:30 am - 8:00 pm
||SAVE THE DATE – March 4th & 5th
The City of Tybee is participating in a rising seas planning project with the University of Georgia and Georgia Sea Grant. Your input is needed to help the City make long-term decisions about how to prepare the island for things like increased flooding, more intense storm surges and saltwater intrusion.
Scientists expect Tybee Island to experience at least six inches of sea level rise over the next 50 years. The tide gauge at nearby Fort Pulaski has already measured a one-foot rise in sea level over the past 80 years. Much of Tybee Island lies just a few feet above sea level.
